In short

  • The official Legacy release date is January 29, 2027, and Pre-Rift events at local stores run from January 22 to 28.
  • Riot's own page for Legacy lists 239 cards including 93 Showcase, while the August 4, 2026 press release and several outlets repeat 346.
  • From Legacy on, one Common slot becomes a slot for either a Legend or a Battlefield at roughly even odds, so each pack holds 6 Commons instead of 7.
  • Legacy brings 4 Champion Decks (Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux, Garen), a Vault Bundle, Pre-Rift kits, boosters and displays, and Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition follows on February 19, 2027 for $40.
  • In the shops we track (as of October 29, 2026), an orderable Legacy display costs 599 zł in Poland (1 offer), €139.90 or €150 in Germany (2 offers) and $169.95 in the US (1 offer).

Riftbound Legacy, the sixth set in the game, launches on January 29, 2027, with Pre-Rift events running January 22 to 28. The biggest change is inside the booster: from Legacy on, a pack holds 6 Commons instead of 7, because one slot now goes to a Legend or a Battlefield. Preorders are open but thin, with 9 shops across Poland, Germany and the US combined, against 60 for Radiance.

Below we separate what is official, what contradicts itself and what prices show on October 29, 2026. We rely on Riot Games announcements and reports from media and shops, and use our own offer data only as a supplement.

Legacy launches January 29, 2027, with Pre-Rift one week earlier

The official Legacy release date is January 29, 2027, and Pre-Rift events at local stores run from January 22 to 28. That comes from Riot's "Products and Sets into 2027" announcement of August 3, 2026 and from the roadmap Riot updated on October 26, 2026.

The first card previews arrive at Convergence Fest, with more promised for January, but no January dates exist yet. Even the Convergence Fest dates differ between the two official pages: the set announcement says December 13 to 15, while the current roadmap says December 11 to 13, 2026 in Las Vegas.

Legacy in six numbers: release Jan 29, 2027, Pre-Rift Jan 22-28, 2027, 239 cards per Riot (disputed), 12 Legends, 6 Commons per booster
Key facts about Legacy from the official Riot announcements (as of 29 Oct 2026). The card count is disputed, see the next section.

Data: playriftbound.com, "Products and Sets into 2027" (Aug 3, 2026) and "Riftbound Roadmap 2026-2027" (updated Oct 26, 2026), read on Oct 29, 2026.

What is known about the set itself (more in our Legacy set guide):

  • Regions. Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover and Zaun, Freljord and Bilgewater. Each region is meant to shape the cards' character.
  • Legends. Riot has named eight of the twelve new Legends: Ashe, Garen, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere and Vladimir. Four remain secret.
  • Draft. This is the first set built with drafting in mind, with signpost cards at lower rarities and a new Minion in the Rune Kits stores receive.
  • Look. Some cards use art inspired by League of Legends Classic. Riot has not shared details, so we do not describe it.

Radiance launched on October 23, 2026, which makes Legacy the next big release. Before it, on December 4, 2026, comes the Gift of the Rift Bundle (16 boosters from five sets, 36 foil runes and an alternate-art Akali promo), an anniversary product and not a new set.

The card count is unclear: Riot lists 239, some reports say 346

Riot's own page for Legacy lists 239 cards including 93 Showcase, while the August 4, 2026 press release and several outlets repeat 346. That is a gap of 107 cards, so we cannot give one firm number.

We put the discrepancy in one table. Our own set guide leaves the card count blank on purpose until TCGplayer publishes the list.

RiftCompare (Sep 12, 2026)239, flags the mismatchAbout 146 base cards once Showcase is subtracted

Data: the pages and articles named in the table, read on Oct 29, 2026; the difference of 346 minus 239 is our own arithmetic.

If 239 is right, Legacy would be smaller than Origins (352 cards), Spiritforged (287) and Unleashed (280), but with 93 cards it would have the largest Showcase share so far. RiftCompare points that out; it is the site's observation, not ours.

Tip: do not budget for a complete collection until the card list shows up on TCGplayer. The 239 figure is more credible because of its source, but it is not certain.

Boosters lose a Common: a new Legend or Battlefield slot, roughly 50/50

From Legacy on, one Common slot becomes a slot for either a Legend or a Battlefield at roughly even odds, so each pack holds 6 Commons instead of 7. Showcase Legends and Battlefields still appear in the Overnumber slot and never in the new one.

Riot gave the reason and the media repeated it: a deck needs only one Legend, so duplicates from packs are nearly worthless, and Legends are cheap on the market anyway. Game director Dave Guskin said in mid-October that the goal is an average competitive deck costing $100 to $300, and he called a growing number of decks above that range an unhealthy trend for new players.

The change has three effects that can be described without guessing:

  1. Rare slots. According to media reports, the freed-up space is meant to leave more room for Rares and Epics, champions included.
  2. Less disappointment. A pack with two Legends or a duplicate stops being the typical outcome.
  3. The chase line. Some commentators note that the change happens below the premium cards, so the odds of the most expensive pulls stay broadly the same.

Data: playriftbound.com (Aug 3, 2026), The Gamer (Aug 4, 2026), riftbound.zone (Oct 12, 2026). The $100 to $300 target is riftbound.zone's account of Guskin's remarks, not our measurement.

Will this lower prices of single Legends? That is only a hypothesis: more Legends in circulation usually means lower prices, and Legends are cheap already. We will check it against card prices after launch, once TCGplayer carries the Legacy list.

Legacy products: display, four Champion Decks, a Vault and Proving Grounds in February

Legacy brings 4 Champion Decks (Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux, Garen), a Vault Bundle, Pre-Rift kits, boosters and displays, and Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition follows on February 19, 2027 for $40. Riot confirms all of this.

Retail prices so far come from single shops, mostly American. These are shop prices rather than manufacturer recommendations, and they can change.

Data: Miniature Market (USA), Otaku Mart (New Zealand) and playriftbound.com, read on Oct 29, 2026; every Legacy item in both shops was marked unavailable or as a preorder.

Two things stand out. First, in the same US shop the Legacy display costs $10 less than the Radiance display ($119.99 against $129.99, or 7.7% less), though the shop warns that price and date may change. Second, per pack the display is about 5.7% cheaper than a single booster there: $4.99 against $5.29.

The second edition of Proving Grounds is an easy way in: four ready decks (Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir, Illaoi), four oversized Battlefields, playmats and rules for $40, or $10 per deck. Riot says the box holds no cards that are unavailable in boosters. No German edition has been announced.

Cheapest in-stock Legacy display: 599 zł in PL, €139.90 in DE, $169.95 in the US

In the shops we track (as of October 29, 2026), an orderable Legacy display costs 599 zł in Poland (1 offer), €139.90 or €150 in Germany (2 offers) and $169.95 in the US (1 offer). Cheaper entries are sold out: 576 zł in Poland, €119.99 and €135 in Germany, and $120 and $199.95 in the US. The first two Polish shops with Legacy appeared in our data only on October 29, 2026.

For comparison, Radiance (released October 23, 2026) costs 549 zł to 599.99 zł in Poland (10 in-stock offers, median 569.50 zł), €119.99 to €139.99 in Germany (9 offers, median €129) and $119 to $179.75 in the US (10 offers, median $127.50). The cheapest Radiance display at 439 zł, which we mentioned in our Radiance launch article, is marked sold out in the data of October 29, 2026.

Data: CardPulse, lowest EN display offer marked in stock at shops in PL, DE and US, plus the lowest price on Cardmarket, as of Oct 29, 2026. Numbers in brackets are shop offers, or available items for Cardmarket. For preorders, "in stock" means the shop accepts orders.

Bar chart: the cheapest in-stock Legacy display is 9.1% above Radiance in Poland, 16.6% in Germany and 42.8% in the USA
Price index: cheapest in-stock Radiance display = 100. Legacy preorders sit higher in all four comparisons, but at shops in PL, DE and the US each market rests on 1 to 2 offers.

The gaps are clear, but conclusions should wait. Legacy has one in-stock offer in Poland, one in the US and two in Germany, and percentages from samples this small are easily inflated.

The possible explanations are only hypotheses: shops may price preorders with a safety margin, there is little competition yet, and demand for the first draft-focused set is unknown. The data of October 29, 2026 confirms none of them. We will check prices in Pre-Rift week and two weeks after launch.

Watch for wrong categories: the lowest "display" price can be a Champion Deck display

On our Legacy price pages the lowest display price is 360 zł in Poland and €79.99 in Germany, but those are not boosters. They are displays of four Champion Decks that shops list as an "assorted display (4 decks)", and they landed in the same category as the booster display.

In Poland that is the RGFK offer at 360 zł (4 decks at 90 zł each), in Germany the Legacy Showdown Deck Display at €79.99 from Mayener Fantasyland, and in the US an out-of-stock Champion Deck Display at $124.95 sits in the same list. The table above does not count these entries. When you compare prices on our site, check the offer title before you take the lowest price for the price of a booster display.

CardPulse price page for Legacy Booster Display in the USA
View of 29 Oct 2026: the Legacy display price page for the USA. Its lowest price ($151.08) is the Cardmarket listing, which our table shows separately. The MSRP and percentage markups shown on the page have no confirmed manufacturer source, so this article does not use them.

Data: CardPulse, Legacy offers in Poland, Germany and the US, as of Oct 29, 2026. Categories on the page group different products, so the lowest price can belong to a cheaper product of another type.

Read the lowest-price history for Legacy display as a rough guide only. On the German page it shows a 47% drop over 80 days (from €150 to €79.99), which probably comes from exactly this entry and not from falling booster prices. That is a hypothesis we have not tested day by day.

Price per pack: with Radiance, a display is no cheaper than a single booster

In Germany a Radiance pack inside a display costs €5.00 (€119.99 divided by 24) against €4.99 for a single booster, so the display saves nothing. In Poland the Radiance display works out to 22.88 zł per pack and the cheapest single booster costs 23 zł, a difference of about 0.5%.

Legacy looks similar in Poland: the 599 zł display equals 24.96 zł per pack, while a booster at RGFK costs 24 zł. In the US the $119 Radiance display gives $4.96 per pack against $5.95 for the cheapest booster, so the display is 16.7% cheaper there.

MarketRadiance: display per packRadiance: cheapest boosterLegacy: display per pack
Poland22.88 zł23 zł24.96 zł (booster 24 zł)
Germany€5.00€4.99€5.83 (boosters unavailable)
USA$4.96$5.95$7.08 (booster unavailable)

Data: CardPulse, lowest in-stock offers for EN display and booster, as of Oct 29, 2026; price per pack is the display price divided by 24.

In short: in Poland and Germany a display is not worth buying for the pack price alone. It pays off when you want a full supply for a draft or want the chance at rare cards from one box. If you need only a few packs, compare booster prices first. Reliable Legacy numbers will only come from offers after launch, because in the data of October 29, 2026 they are single entries.

The 2027 calendar shifts: The Reckoning on June 30 instead of April 30

Riot's current roadmap (updated October 26, 2026) puts The Reckoning on June 30, 2027 with Pre-Rift from June 23 to 29, while the August 3 announcement said April 30 and Pre-Rift April 23 to 29. That is a two-month gap.

The roadmap also contains something that does not fit a June date: the Reckoning Regionals in Louisville (May 14 to 16) and Düsseldorf (May 21 to 23) fall before that launch, and the Lyon Regional (June 25 to 27) lands in Pre-Rift week. We do not know whether that is an error in the table or a change of plans. We are waiting for Riot's next update and treat both dates as uncertain until then.

Data: playriftbound.com, announcement of Aug 3, 2026 and roadmap updated Oct 26, 2026, read on Oct 29, 2026.

For tournament players the Legacy Regionals matter more than the release: Madrid February 5 to 7, Philadelphia February 12 to 14, Auckland March 5 to 7 and the Dallas Continental March 26 to 28, 2027. The first European Regional sits just one week after launch, which leaves less time for deckbuilding than usual. The first State of the Game of 2027 is due in February, with no date. You can find all dates in our Riftbound release calendar.

Who should preorder Legacy and who can wait

Preorders make most sense for tournament players and anyone who wants a guaranteed purchase, while everyone else can wait for launch-week prices. This is not investment advice, because we do not know how prices will behave after January 29.

  • Tournament players. Regionals start on February 5, so packs or Champion Decks should be in hand in the first week. A shop in New Zealand writes openly about limited allocations and takes no advance orders.
  • Casual and draft players. Legacy is built for draft, and a few packs from the local store will do. A display saves little per pack.
  • New players. Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition (Feb 19, 2027, $40) gives four decks in one box. It is worth weighing against single Champion Decks at $19.99 each (a US shop price).
  • Sealed collectors. With one in-stock offer in Poland there is no reference point at all. The risks are a possible change in price and date, and cancellation by the shop.

How to prepare an order, step by step:

  1. Check the product. Make sure the offer is a booster display and not a deck display (see the section on wrong categories).
  2. Check the language. The Legacy offers we see are in English. Proving Grounds is announced in EN, CN, FR and KR.
  3. Convert to a pack price. Divide the display price by 24 and compare it with a single booster.
  4. Read the terms. Look at shipping date, price lock and cancellation rules, since release dates sometimes slip.
  5. Set a price alert. With a free CardPulse account you can set an alert on a product and see when the price drops.

Tip: while only single offers exist, do not take the first price for the market price. In Pre-Rift week (from January 22) there should be more offers, and the comparison will be sturdier.
